Meander,
A close in law, 35 years old, got mono while dealing with a long bout of this extended cold/flu bug. Those back throat symptoms you described might need to be looked at. Lymph swelling? Yellowish eyes? Doctor time!
Tom
My doctor was telling me that if you have a "cold" that lasts several weeks, it's usually actually more than one cold that you caught back to back, because a cold shouldn't last that long.
OR it's not a cold.
I would be willing to bet that most people who have "the flu" have severe colds and stomach bugs and not Influenza
Yea... People seem to call anything they don't know what it is the flu not to mention they then often blame it on getting a flu shot (which is a dead virus).
Unless you are really sick it ain't the flu. I.E. if you are still going to work, somewhat active etc, you just have some combination of a virus.
If you have the flu you probably don't feel like doing much and aren't doing much.
I've got the same crud, following spouse about five days later through course.
No, not as bad as influenza. Daughter's teacher just lost her daughter to influenza. Early 30's, two children of her own. Beyond sad.

Heck No.

Yes, very sad. I am over in Spokane because my Mom has been hospitalized for 2 weeks with the flu and pneumonia, we came very close to losing her.
I read about a 39 guy in Spokane who was a well know street hot dog vendor who passed away from the flu. He had a flu shot, but there is a strain that was not covered by the vaccine.
