I'm giving serious thought to getting the A6000. Anyone have any experience with one?

I hear they are pretty good. I am waiting until may to see if Sony comes out with an A7000.

I don't have the A6000, but I've had the NEX-6 for about three years now. It's the precursor to that camera. I'm very happy with it. Focus is quick and accurate, color is good. Sony lens selection isn't that great but getting better slowly.

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on this too. I reading through these reviews was helpful.

I saw this also. I guess I should wait just a little longer:
Quote: | Sony A7000 / A6100 Rumored Specification [Update]
A detailed list of specification of upcoming Sony A6000 successor shared by one of our reader, the camera was expected to arrive in April but delayed due to some production issue (may be over-heating of sensor while recording 4K videos)
Take a look below and share your thoughts with us…
24MP APS-C image sensor
In body image stabilization (No word about 5 axis)
4k video
XAVC-S video codec
Improved image processor
Larger buffers
Weather sealed camera body
overhauled button layout
EVF with pop-out mechanism
180 deg rotating touch enabled display
Price point would be 700$ for the body with a “basic” kit for 900$ and a premium kit with weather sealed Zeiss lens for 1200$, however and the end I must tell you that the source is new so take it as grain of salt. |
Here's quite a glowing review of this camera that was on DPReview

I started with a 5N and now have the A6k. Love both of them. Super lightweight with an interchangeable lens option. I use the kit 18-50 and sigma 10-20 with a cheap adapter ring (works perfectly). The sensor is extremely sensitive in low-light conditions, and I havent noticed any noise up to 1600ish ISO. To shave a few pounds, I'm looking at getting the 16mm prime lens. If I were you, I'd wait until the 7k comes out, and buy a 6k at a discounted price.

I tried the A6000 and the A7 this past August (I started with Minolta film and love my APS-C A580, but was looking for a lighter kit for backpacking). Carried both up to Skyline Divide with the A580 and tripod so I could shoot side by side.
In the end, I reached for the A7 far more often than the A6000 - but that was mostly tactile. The A6000 was fine for photos, though...but used will probably go down in price once the newer model comes out.
Backpacking: limited to one pack at a time. Cameras: limited to as many as I can carry.

Well that didn't take long... Costco is already out of stock on the A6000. The sale was to last from 5/4 to 5/31. While supplies last.

I have a Nex 5N which is a great backpacking camera but it took some time to learn interface. Curious if anyone can speak to 5N to A6000 upgrade. Specs seem to indicate the 5N is a little lighter, more energy efficient and I love my EVF accessory so I'm holding off for now. I don't need better AF, mainly better dynamic range, video, interface.
