I wish I could post his photo...he is adorbs!! Obi, a 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix, is a handsome fellow with adorable mismatched ears that are sure to bring a smile to your face. He'll gladly accompany you on walks, hikes or any adventure you might go on - he's game for it all! He's a big sweetheart who can't wait to meet you. Obi would do best in a loving home with children 12 years of age and older, a cat-free home and resident dogs are required to meet him prior to adoption. Come meet Obi and his adoptable pet friends at the Seattle Humane Society today. More available pets for adoption at www.seattlehumane.org. Celebrate ‪#‎EarthDay‬ the pet friendly way- today through April 22, get $45 off the adoption fee for all mixed breed dogs 1 year and up.

Love the one floppy ear! Good to see someone took him home! I'm currently looking for another furry hiking companion.

Yes, I know. I'm looking at two others right now. The dog in the OP, while he looks like a great dog, is smaller than what I would like. I'm glad he went to a good home. I like big dogs, they can carry lots of stuff. biggrin.gif

But your larger breeds are more prone to hip dysplasia so carrying lots of stuff, or even hiking, can be not so good for the hips.

that's the chance you take. There are no guarantees in life. I think mutts are less prone to hip problems than purebreeds that have been over-bred though. Jackson is 8 years old now and shows no signs of any hip problems.

Yea, if they can't carry a 6 pk of micro, then they aren't worthy.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Yes on both points. We love our current big mutt, but he has some nasty dysplasia, which also led to a blown out knee which became apparent shortly after we got him and started taking him on long walks and hikes (this was at roughly age 2 years, we think). With a knee operation (TPLO) and good route selection (avoiding overly steep or rough trails) he was able to come with us on lots of great hikes, including several summits and backpacks. But no pack carrying, and the hip/knee issues have finally caught up with him at ~12 and we've dialed back to where we're not even taking him up things like Wilderness Peak at Cougar Mtn any more. He's a great pal though and we're both glad we got him; we just wish he hadn't been dealt a short straw in that regard. Very smart, sweet, loving dog who is pretty much always happy. But we've always carried his kibble on backpacks, I'm afraid.

Them Aussie dogs are some hikin' foo's. I also met a Jack Russell coming up the Mt. Pilchuck scramble route. Dude. That dog was like a pinball coming up those boulders. Very cute. Like many terriers, he was not super friendly, but once he figured out I was not some vermin that needed to be exterminated, we sniffed, wagged, and went about our ways. Tom
