One of my hiking buddies and I had been planning a Chelan Lakeshore hike from Prince Ck to Stehekin just to get out. The day before we were to leave the Chelan Boat company told me there would be no shore stops since the slow boat lost its transmission. We changed plans and decided to take the fast boat to Stehekin and hike back to Moore Point then on the second day hike up Fish Creek. One idea of mine is to go up that trail later in the summer to get to the Sawtooth summit trail so I wanted to check it out.

The Fish Creek trail is brushy on the lower end then breaks out into an old burn. By the time we got to the Round lake junction I had already lost interest in going up the Fish Ck trail in the summer so we hiked into Round Lake instead. It is a small marshy lake but has abundant small wildlife. Including tons of snakes. We counted over 20 snakes in the water and around where we were sitting in less than half an hour. That was in addition to all the ticks we found on us from the brush.

This salter character pulled into our camp.
Since the boat got fixed Moore Point campground filled up that night with hikers coming from Prince Creek. We chatted with a few of them and had a leisurely hike back to Stehekin the next morning. Good trip all in all.
Well you guys got out on some nice days Horton Butte and Indian Head Basin is out there in Limbo that might be the best way in to do something like Finney or Skookum Puss from a miles and gain perspective. If you were in the South those could have been Cotton mouths in the water.
Nice work there HTT. Round lake looks kind a hammered.

Round Lake was in a beautiful little forested basin before the fire. Then it got turned into complete toast. It still looks rather grim but you would not believe all the small wildlife up there. The place is teaming. Mother Nature making her comeback.
