This was a great outing with Greg S., Edward E., and Ken R. The trail is in very good shape. The last several hundred feet required extra care due to steep (and sometimes sloppy) snow. I actually punched through during the descent, banging my knee in a hidden rock-moat trap. The views from the summit area were great in every direction. This peak is highly recommended, although most general hikers should probably wait a while longer for the upper snow to melt some more.

Nice! I hiked there once, and was stopped by the steep snow. We were content to hang out at the knob below the last thrust to the summit. It was a hot-as-hell day. Lots of flowers out though. You don't see too many trip reports for S Point. I think they logged the lower portion of the trail a few years ago...?

For a location with such great views and (usually) easy access, I am shocked how little information and visits there are for this peak. During most normal snow years, the upper steep snow lasts into the Summer. But this is not most years. Additional tidbits: -> The 152nd most prominent point in Washington. -> A former lookout site.

Kim I believe it burned earlier in the century - part of the big Cispus burns up there. South Point was one of the lookout sites they had me shoot the panoramas from for the landscape analysis. (It was fun getting the tripod and camera up onto the top of that little radio repeater box there.) Pretty steep trail. Fun report. (that potty is the one they gave me "photo of the month" for )
