Does anybody have any history of camping at Cougar Rock or Ohanapecosh campground on Memorial Day Weekend? It's first come first serve and I won't be able to get there until Saturday morning. Has it filled up fast and full Friday night or is there a chance of finding a couple spots Saturday morning? I know of course weather will play a hand in things. Just checking to see what my odds are. Thanks.

I've camped at La Wis Wis on Memorial Day weekend and it's been practically empty, but it was also raining consistently that trip and that may have had a lot to do with it. Cougar and Ohan fill up pretty fast at any time of year on the weekends they're open. I would have a backup plan or three if I were you.

It rains most Memorial day weekends, but this year is weird, so it might be pretty good.

This campground is next to MRNP and has park boundary signs along the White River, just to remind you that you are close. They take reservations. http://hoodoorecreation.com/campgrounds/mt-baker-snoqualmie/snoqualmie-district/mather-memorial/silver-springs/

There is a pretty good dispersed camping/overflow area right before you get to the Mt. Rainier sign. The road cuts down toward the river - can't miss it.

I would try the Ohanapecosh campground side, it's always quieter.

Thanks for all the great info guys and gals. Does anybody know when the gates into the park at Longmire entrance open up? I cant find any info on the website. Edit: Nevermind, I called the Gateway Inn at Mt Rainier and she had the answer, 8 am. Thanks again all.

Now that it is no longer "winter" the gate at longmire should be open 24/7 -- The park entrance is almost always open. It is staffed starting at 8am. There are machines for paying the entrance fee at other times or if you already have a park pass or interagency pass you can drive on in to the park. The Cougar Rock campground gate may not open until 8AM. You can reserve a site here
