On the children yes. The adults should know better. No compassion from me. They willingly chose their fates. If a child is injured or killed I place the blame on the parent/guardian there with them. Child Protective Services needs to be contacted if it is a parent there. Not fit to parent. Putting your kid at risk like that?

I was heading to my property in Verlot about 5:30 when a sheriff flew by me and another passed me as we reached Verlot...scared me because they had only their lights on and no sirens, which I find a bit odd? Then we counted at least 20 more emergency vehicles speeding to the scene. On the way back into Marysville about 9:15 we noticed a pretty large media gathering at the Verlot Ranger Station, camera crews, ect...we heard that the news crews were turned away at the Ice Caves TH, to keep them out of the way to allow rescue workers to do their jobs.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

SAR is a volunteer organization. How much money do volunteers get paid anyway?

This. Keep the good vibes coming for responders, the injured, and their families.

how about right now we just all put out some good vibes for the Firefighters, Search and Rescue crews, Airlift Northwest, Snowhawk, Sheriffs deputies, USFS, Fire/Medical- Sheriffs 911 Dispatchers, and most of all the injured??? We can hash out punishments at a later date? Thanks wink.gif
Before I got involved with SAR, I used to find these "discussions" entertaining if not particularly compelling. Now, they just depress me. frown.gif

Thank you, for a thoughtful and all too rare notion.

This was on the national news this morning. Perhaps now they'll take the steps necessary to close these deadly caves down before any more innocent lives are lost.

I was thinking more along the lines of blasting the caves in early summer when they start to melt.

If you are truly interested in knowing more about how Snohomish County funds helicopter SAR operations, here are a few places to start: https://helicopterrescue.org/who-we-are/ https://scvsar.org https://www.facebook.com/SnohomishHRT http://old.seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2023259169_mudslidehelicopterfundingxml.html

There is a precedent. The Douglas County sheriff (probably actually somebody hired by him) blasted a pool in Douglas Creek where there was an undertow. Two? or more folks had drowned in what looked like a nice swimming hole prior to the blasting. No NEPA, no studies, no public input. Just some strategically placed dynamite. Of course, that was in the 1970s, when we were not so sensitive. It probably contributed to the decimation of the Pygmy Bunnies or something.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
