No, just manually with "edit path" in hillmap - thus the "rough" warning. I don't have a gps because a) I'm too cheap, and b) I like doing things the hard way

Well, I'll be danged. I looked at the aerial photos of the area, and you can clearly see a old constructed trail complete with switchbacks heading up East Alta and toward Park Lakes.

There's a fantastic stretch of old, flat, moss-lined tread that traverses through the forest above Park Lakes. I read somewhere that the trail was built and maintained by the Mountaineers back in the gnarly days of old.

The rather obvious route is easier to find on the way down. When you get to the nasty steps just head uphill and before long you will see where to head down.

Yup. I've taken that old trail from Becky's "3 Tarns" below Alta up to the top of East Alta.
