I loathe hiking. Getting all sweaty, tired, and dirty. I do it only because I crave the alpine. Or do I yearn for the alpine? I forget.

The road trip to the destination is where the excitement is. The hike is supposed to be a routine recreational affair. No drama, even if it's loosely planned. Routine. On the other hand, I've had some totally crazy road trips to trail heads. Much fun. Some almost dangerous. I could tell some stories - one even landed me in a free top floor hotel suite as a guest of the Nez Perce Indians. Road trip craziness and they felt sorry for me. Two rooms with a conference table, huge TV,'s and a hot tub in the grand bedroom! Getting there is half the fun. smile.gif

I only like climbing because of the cold beer in the stream on the return near the car at the trailhead.

Art is an adventure.

I plan my hike around which restaurant I feel like visiting afterwards. Been hooked on Cascadia Inn in Skykomish lately. Damn fine chicken fried steak. Don't let the brown gravy scare you - it frightened me at first; I was crest-fallen and bummed out. But I quickly learned that its a great chicken fried steak. I'm a chicken fried steak snob. O yes I am.

The trip IS the destination Unless it involves air travel, which is rarely as enjoyable as even the work I do on the other side on business trips, except for some cool views like the Scandinavian peninsula at first light, the south China sea as a storm clears, or getting the view from the right side of a plane coming to Seattle from Europe with a landings near sunset. Otherwise the air travel part mostly sucks these days. As for hiking trips, "yes"

I think usually it is about the destination, but sometimes you get a destination like Lake Mosquito and you say to yourself, "Hey, I thought this would be another Lake Melakwa, but this really is Lake Mosquito!" and then you end up doing a variation on the slap dance the rest of the evening to keep the bugs away. In that case, the trip was probably better than the destination. bug.gif That said, when all is said and done, a burger at Gustavs is always nice. burger.gif drink.gif

I'd guess that Kim would agree that no burger in the world can compare with a properly prepared Chicken Fried Steak. so... Kim... did you ever get down to Poodle Dog in Fife and try theirs?

It looks like the new Stone House Café has chicken fried steak.
