Maybe I'm missing something. I can see how that repair works if the box is ripped out -- I've done similar repairs -- but how does that fix work if the insertion pin is ripped out? On the subject of zipper repairs, I recently replaced the zipper in my cuben fiber MLH DuoMidXL with a beefier #8 non-waterproof coil zipper. It came with a waterproof #5 coil zipper, which failed, spreading apart is several places. IME, waterproof zippers are prone to do that. Replacement zipper is working great.

I was able to melt the tape and coil on mine to fashion an insertion pin of sorts, something rigid enough to use on the slider. Else I'd expect you'd have to fuse/melt on a bit of plastic or similar to create a stiff enough area to work in place of the pin. Not pretty repairs fore sure. Replacing the zipper is the best answer. But if that's not possible for some reason, this makeshift repair may work OK.
