Had a chance to hike with my daughter and visited the MTL feeling the new snow could start flying any day now. The Fall color has been mostly gone from the alpine. The temp was a little cold needing puffies when stopping for breaks. I've skied up to the lake notch twice from the West side but not in Summer. It is a gorgeous alpine meadow and easy to see why people are protective about it. I'll just post pics as usual.

Lake!
There is a lot of ski-able terrain around the basin, I'll definitely come back on skis! More pics here.

I like this shot -- you can almost see the glaciers scraping that rock.

Low hanging clouds really add to the mood. Nice images
It is one of my all time favorite spots.
It think it needs to be renamed "Basin Of Balancing Boulders"
I recall at least 3

I agree with puzzler, that is a nice shot - I like the bent tree growing out from the cliff.

Very nice pictures, Kenji. Especially like the sunburst over the outlet slabs. Thanks for the share.

Thanks for all the encouragement!
Btw, the lake was pretty, but its water wasn't crystal clear and there were many tiny bugs happily swimming around. Saw two kinds: tiny worms wiggling and red ones swimming like beetles. Maybe they are in many alpine lakes and I didn't look carefully before or only in some lakes. Anybody seen them?

I did notice a lot of bug larvae in the water on a couple of recent trips. Was also really surprised to get bitten by mosquitos in October...

Interesting Kenji
I was there September 29th and the water clarity was beautiful
I too am curious to know the bacteria / algae bloom ( if thats what it is ) this late in the year. Its just a guess, but I'm assuming the aquatic life and water cloudiness are related somehow.
Heavy rainfall runoff?
There was a lot of fish activity in Lower Thunder Mountain Lake the day I was there. More fish activity than I've witnessed in any other alpine lake. I wonder if the lower lake had the bug explosion just a few days before the upper lake
I'll add a little more to the mystery. I experienced the same at Horseshoe Lake on September 21st. The water was very cloudy. I didn't notice the aquatic insects.
Again, heavy rainfall runoff or heavy winds stirring up the lake?
Unrelated I'm sure, but there was a very large animal bone ( femur ) in the shallow bottom of the lake. I didn't see the remainder of the skeleton scattered about as the clarity of the water obscured the deeper portions
