The Adarondacks are also great fun. While the highest peak is Mt. Marcy just over 5000' the approaches are usually straight up without switchbacks frequently on rock. The peaks are mostly bare and have nice views. The more challenging routes go up "slides" which are long bare slabs of granite. No glaciers of course but many challenging ice climbs in winter. The Whites in New Hampshire and Greens in Vermont are not all that far away. If you have time there is the Long Trail. Lots of fun canoeing also as many of the ponds are connected with narrow channels some with locks.

Thanks for the suggestions , I'm working up a list. On the top is visiting a cousin in Maine, ME. I'd love to do some exploring , but my primary purpose here is to help two sleep deprived parents get through the critical first months of the twins lives. Everything is tricky with twins, , e.g. when you are holding two babies and one spits out their binky, you don't have a free hand to put it back in.... I'm just a KM up Malcom X from central park, so its an 8KM loop around Jackies pond, I'll mostly be running for endorphins.

The 10k around the park has to be one of the classic runs in the world. smile.gif

No offense fellas, but to hijack a thread about a pretty serious problem for your completely unrelated chat time is not cool. Would appreciate it if you would remove the NY posts from this thread.

Here's one study. There may be other studies that draw other conclusions in regards to the risk of talking on the phone while driving. http://www.computerworld.com/article/2483546/mobile-wireless/cell-phone-talking-while-driving-doesn-t-lead-to-higher-crash-risk--research-says.html

For what it's worth, running my cell phone hands-free GPS app (Waze) actually saved my keister last weekend. I came across large objects in the highway four times while driving on I-90 between North Bend and Ellensburg. The app alerted me to the hazards well ahead of time. Considering the terrible weather conditions on the roads last weekend, a swerve to avoid an object in the road could have resulted in an accident. While I agree that texting & driving is a big mistake, there are situations when utilizing a phone hands-free can be beneficial. Regarding the OP's claim that you will lose house/car/retirement fund - that's rarely the case if you have insurance. Assets are only pursued in injury/car accident cases when there isn't enough insurance to cover the settlement amount. With third party liability insurance and underinsured bodily injury coverage, that's usually enough. I worked in personal injury law for six years, and assets were never once pursued.
