So I think we've found a way to deal with the cantankerous goats in ONP: Eagles! Now we gotta not only watch for bears, cougars, sasquatch, but now WINGED two legged varmints also! eek.gif

I cannot believe either one of them survived that without some damage. I thought for sure that bird was crushed at that large boulder. The impact to the airsacs had to do damage. eek.gif but it does make you wonder how many eagles are savvy enough to take on flushing a small kid down a slope or to pick up and drop to kill.

Holy Cow, what a video! Have to say that it was a little painful to watch, some of those tumbles....... I'm surprised both animals were able to stand up afterwards! Here's the eagle you need to hunt mountain goats, though it might end up preferring larger prey:
Haast's eagle went extinct sometime between the 1400s and the 20th century due to the extinction of its main source of prey (the 12 foot tall Moa bird) by the invading Polynesians. Since it went extinct so recently, maybe we could clone a few and introduce them to the Olympics......

CGI, possibly? Didn't look quite right to me. Somebody certainly made a huge efforts with the sound effects...

I don't know if it "looked right" or not, but if so, that's a significant effort. And for nothing. Anyone here know if this is indeed "probably, or even possibly" legitimate?

Turns out it's real; a spontaneous, accidental capture while shooting a movie in the Alps. The movie, which is not scheduled for US release, is titled Brothers of the Wind (German title Wie Brüder im Wind). The hoofed critters are chamois. Here's a better version:
There's a story about the footage on this page

Must have been one hungry eagle. Seems like a possibility effective hunting technique, if dive, bombing the goat causes it to fall over a cliff big enough to mortally wound the goat, but this case seems like a failure.

The cause for the highest mortality rate for goats is avalanches Unlike last winter, appears the goats have something to worry about this year

Not that this will make you feel all good inside, but it is relevant to the discussion:

Well it's not like the eagle(s) in the video can fly to Safeway and pick up a nice plastic-wrapped package of CAFO beef. If I want to feel bad about something, all I need do is contemplate all the human animals on my planet killing, maiming and torturing their fellow human animals - just because.

Wasn't aware that my post contained moral judgments on the eagles for their hunting tactics. From now on, I will introduce any further similar posts with a disclaimer that what the viewer is about to witness is morally acceptable on the basis of the predator's lack of more morally pleasing options in regards to sustenance. clown.gif

ditto.gif And it also looks like a Golden Eagle in alpendave's video. Not many Golden Eagles in ONP. Baldies don't hunt like that.
