Hmm... I've tried to reach Upper Lena Lake twice in the snow solo (once with powder in February a few years ago, once w/ more consolidated stuff in March a year later), with no luck (only ever made it there in late spring or early summer after the snow had fully consolidated). Even with snowshoes, the snow was just too dang deep a mile or two past Lower Lena to continue with a chance of reaching upper Lena before nightfall. Unless someone has already broken the trail there (in which case COOL!), I'd say you might want to consider just going to Lower Lena Lake instead. Here is a recent trip report (10 days ago) from someone attempting to reach Upper Lena, I'd turned around both times within 1/4 mile of where they reached.

That last stretch before the lake is really a steep side hill. Be careful there if its under snow.

Wow, that is a fast trekking time! After my experience "swimming" through powder on that trail I told myself I'd never try that one in the winter (w/ snow) again. Looks like your timing was perfect given the fresh snow that will probably deposit up there over the next week or so. What do you think the temperature got down to while you were there?

Thank you so much for this! I'm trying to get some people together to ski/snowboard Mt Lena on the 24th.

Love hiking and mountains!

Really excited to hear your reports of trail conditions, as I'm planning on heading up to the Brothers in April. Have any of you been that far? Anyone want to summit south peak/Mt. Edward with me?? biggrin.gif
