Sad. Can't say I enjoy all of his music, but most of it is interesting. Never caught a performance, but saw him once in SeaTac customs as he claimed his single bag off his private jet.

In addition to "a few catchy tunes" he also helped teach a lot of other artists about, as the NYT aptly put it today, "the power of drama, images, and personas." His impact was clearly much broader than just the songs that still get lots of replay to this day. RIP.

Quite beautiful and rather haunting to say the least. Here's Lazarus from his last album--Blackstar. ~z

In high school, in the early 70s, Bowie gave us a kind of blueprint for self expression that surpassed and exceeded even the extremes and excesses of the previous decade. Fortunately most of us survived... Rest in Space, Starman

Sad, rest in peace. They showed The Man Who Fell to Earth on cable several times last week.

Here he is way back in 1985 at the Wembley Stadium in London performing for Live-Aid a fund-raising event paired up with a simultaneous event in Philadelphia to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The song is Heroes--quite an anthem. ~z

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

1976, Lake Hotel Cook's Dorm, Yellowstone Natl. Park. Girlfriend lent me her small 8 track player...2-3 tapes. One was Bowie with Suffragette City, Young American, etc. Much rocking with roommate who was trying to get off grid for minor crimes in Wisconsin. Tom
