Took a leisurely stroll up to Lake Talapus on Sunday. There were a few cars already parked at the i90 exit and couple more that were stuck in the snow going up on the trail. We followed the road to the TH parking lot. The snow path along the way was very well trough and continued to be all the way up to the lake. Along the way there was one campsite which smelled like the had been burning something to keep warm (wood, I hope). The camp robbers (gray jays?) were patrolling the area and manages to rob me of my granola bar!!! Next time I'll eat with my mittens off so I can hold it. The edge of the lake was still not frozen over so I didnt venture onto the ice. On the way down I saw about 20-30 people hiking up to the trail head, and about 30more parked undearth I90.
A good day to be out and about.
That seems like a lot of people to be snowshoeing to Talapus this time of year. But I guess it's one of the few spots that doesn't require an expensive snow park permit.
