We have lost a great villain of the silver screen, goodbye Severus Snape and Hans Gruber.

Not just a villain! Remember Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility?

I haven't seen it!
I also remember him from Galaxy Quest, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and the recent Alice and Wonderland movie, speaking of which, apparently he will reprise his role as Absolom the caterpiller in the sequel due out this year (I assume they finished recording/shooting it some time ago).

I loved his role in Galaxy Quest. I totally forgot about Hitchhiker's Guide. He was Marvin the depressed robot, right?

Yep! I only realized it today when I looked up his filmography.

Pancreatic cancer, which they only found out about last August after he had a stroke (his condition wasn't made public till after his death). He was 69 years old.

I've been a big fan of Alan Rickman, finding him so likable even in despicable roles. One of his lesser known, but still wonderful, films is Truly, Madly, Deeply. Maybe he can reprise the role of Jamie in the afterlife, for the benefit of his real-life widow.
