My mom is looking for a place to move. Currently lives in a small city in Wisconsin and looking to get away from frigid winters. Needs are 2br home (<$75K), neighborhoods for walking, a grocery store, relatively quiet (i.e. not next to a freeway). What would you recommend within a 2hr drive of Seattle? Thanks NWHikers!

That's going to be a real challenge anywhere in the Puget Sound area. A quick look at Redfin shows the only 2BR homes in that range are in Aberdeen area and Centralia and possibly Bremerton.

Yeah, she lives in an old mobile home next to a freeway right now and we had a dairy farm for a long time, so her standards are not super high. Just hoping to find a safe, quiet place. She's totally independent and should be for another 5-10 years. We just starting to look around. Centralia was one thought but haven't been through there except for STP.

At that price point in the Puget Sound area -- you should consider a 55+ Mobile Home Park.
Example in Olympia: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3244-66th-Ave-SW-Olympia-WA-98512/49417052_zpid/
My sister-in-law's mother lived in a similar facility (near San Diego) for many many years -- and enjoyed having other folks of similar vintage around for social interaction. She lived past her 100th birthday -- besides good genes she walked a least a mile everyday -- even after she started using a walker at age 88.

This hotel is a fun place for a beverage or to see a movie and you can drink as you watch. The rooms seem interesting. I believe that the train to Seattle stops in the town. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Club_Hotel

Centralia is not that cheap unless you want a dump in an area that floods. They are also having a bit of a crime wave. Cars are getting broken into, stolen and just about anything else that is not locked away.
The big thing would be the f word there...Flooding. Due to fill being placed in former wetlands, the flooding occurs where it didn't used to.
There is a gated, planned community almost next to the hospital/nursing home/social security office that sometimes does have a duplex or house that is under 100k if she doesn't mind having covenants and yard care.
Can you tell I've been thinking about moving?
Morton might be stretching the 2 hour limit but it occasionally has a mobile home for sale and has low crime and is good for old people to walk around to places in.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I don't think that Centralia is as bad as Treeswarper makes it out to be. If you are considering that area, look into Chehalis also. IMO Chahalis is more "cozy" than Centralia. I have a few friends that live in both towns and I can't recall hearing any complaints that wouldn't arise in any other town/city. The flooding is something to think about when choosing a residence in that area. Flood Warning Phases Map link on this page.
I hope your mom finds a nice place were ever see ends up settling.
