Google Photos isn't bad. The interface is prettier but less functional than Picasa Web. For example, the album view doesn't show any labels or other photo metadata.
What I'm really going to miss is the Picasa desktop application. Google Photos lacks many features (like adjusting time stamps in bulk). Also, since it's a web (or mobile) app only, processing a hike's worth of photos is much more tedious.

I was actually paying Google for storage space, but now they're pushing me to Google Photos, which has unlimited storage space for free :-)

So, will Picasa on my PC cease to work or will it just not have any new updates in the future?? I'm less concerned about Picasa Web Albums
Thanks for posting this

So if I understand this correctly, Google Photos does not have a desktop application? I preferred Picasa for resizing photos in bulk as well as other actions on the desktop end.
