Last minute plans found me in the Olympics.
Aurora Ridge trail starts 2.6 miles past Marymere falls. This is an obscure trailhead you will not find unless you know what you are looking for. Trail goes up. Hit snow at 3000 feet and snowshoes on at 3800 feet where they stayed on the entire time up there. I could follow where the trail was even wearing the snowshoes. Two summits of Aurora that are equal in height. Views are not impressive. Even today. Only took one picture...that was well, not much. Came back down and followed the trail to a pond area where I lost the trail in the snow but easily went up to Sourdough. Several bumps on top equal in height per my altimeter. Came down and made a shortcut to the trail going around a subpeak. 9 hours round trip. 5300 gain with about 12 miles.

This is a rarely visited route. I have never seen anyone on on the Aurora Creek trail. It's good that these are visited from time to time.

Very nice trip choice and thank you for the snow condition info... were the clouds obscuring the views south to Mt. Olympus? (I seem to remember some pretty darn nice views, through the trees and on rocky outcroppings, from both of those peaks looking south). I parked at the "gravel pit" a couple years back and walked, while wearing a reflective vest, the 200 hundred yards or so to the TH, that road can be very "spicy" for a pedestrian!
