Google is offering a collection of Nik PS Plugins for free. I've been using Color Efex Pro for a few years and highly recommend it.

Downloaded and installed it earlier this evening.
The noise reduction and sharpening tools seem to be particularly impressive!

This is great - Nac is right, Define and Sharpener are my go to filters for noise reduction and final print sharpening. Silver FX is also my B&W conversion filter - very powerful and easy to learn.

Downloaded the suite. I don't use PhotoShop at home, so I'll use these as stand-alones.

Are they usable as standalones?
As far as I know, they are plug-ins- only usable within PS or Lightroom. I could be wrong- I'm actually still using version 2.

Is the sharpening/noise reduction of Nik PS Plugin better than PhotoShop CS5? Just trying to gain more perspective on why I might want this plugin.

Thanks for the tip. Just installed it for use with Aperture (as long as it lasts), Lightroom and PS.

For print work, yeah it's quite a bit better - or at least more flexible. For images you're just optimizing for web display, the sharpening tool won't make much of a difference, and the Noise filters would only come into play if you're posting high ISO shots at high resolution where you can't downsample to reduce the noise in the first place.

I agree with sorefeet - I mostly use the sharpening filter for print work - takes a lot of the guess work out of it. I often use Define to selectively smooth skies. Vivenza is great to warm things up and add local contrast. One thing I like about Nik in PS is that the default is to make a new layer, which you can then blend or mask as you choose. And yes, they all can be installed and used as standalone, but since I use photoshop I just use the plug-ins.
