I just turned 62. One of the best things about it is the lifetime America the Beautiful pass. Can I purchase the senior lifetime America the Beautiful pass at REI? $80? I know I can buy it online, but I plan an REI stop this weekend anyhow...

I think you can get one at any local FS office. That's where I got mine. If you think you are getting good deal now, they used to be $10.

Though I've not been in the store lately, I believe they likely still have the FS desk. If not perhaps CS. Call REI.

It is $80 for a lifetime pass, available to those over 62 years of age. There is also an option for a Senior Annual pass for $20 per year.

The other awesome thing about the geezer version of the ATBP is that you get half off campground fees in NPS, USFS and BLM campgrounds. Another thing that might be of interest to the Silverback crowd is the Washington state parks has a discount program for limited income seniors. If your federal taxable income is less than $40K you qualify-- regardless of assets ( so you could live in a megabuck house and have millions in savings, but if you don't have taxable income, you may still campground for cheap)

Ain’t that America
I think the same policy goes for seniors getting a property tax break in this state. It's based on your income and not your net worth. So if you are living off your savings account bucks and have zero income you can get up to 50% break on house tax.

I'll have to research that. I'm always complaining about state park camping fees being so high, along with paying for showers. On the federal pass, it is also called the Geezer Pass. I've definitely gotten my money's worth from it.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

The pass I also use a lot now is the Wa State Parks Senior Offseason Pass. It cost $75 a year and is good for free camping at the state parks from Oct 1 to March 31.

The local National Wildlife Refuge should have the pass too.
