what a day! gorgeous gorgeous! the trail is mostly snow free. about 1/2 mile or so from the park boundary (about 3.6 miles from trailhead), snow spotty to pretty much full on snow to deer park. we stopped short of the junction to three forks. easy going on the snow ... follow our footprints with occasional post holing. photos from today's hike
graywolf range
grand ridge
moose peak?
the burn and blue mountain
second horseshoe bend area
thank you Lisa and Neil for another great day on the trail. that's it!

Very nice bobbi. I think that is Moose Peak.

Need to get back here. Its been a couple of years. Was just thinking/wondering about the snow conditions. I think I'll wait a bit. Any mention of post holing has zero appeal to me. Plus I like to throw in Blue Mountain.

tigermn: with all this warmth and possible rain ... post holing may be a non-issue. helps if you use trekking poles with a basket!

By the time I'm able to get out there (maybe in 3 weeks) the snow will probably be gone.

I was out there today. The snow is still around at the top of Deer Park and is 2-3' in places but the trail is mostly clear up to there now. I laid my bag out on a dry part of the ridge and spent a warm night up there. Nobody else up there but me and some coyotes but passed 20 day hikers going out yesterday and 10 going in today.
