Here is an adventure where you won't see anyone and get to a location very few visit anymore.  Definitely one of the best places in Washington to experience a former fire lookout.  Anytime the summit requires dynamite, it must be somewhere special.  With the old logging roads now forested and a hiking trail, the wilderness feel is back for this classic.  A small crew could brush this trail opening one of the best hiking destinations in all the southern Olympics.

Went up this ridge that many maps show a trail...not so, it was a class 3 bushwhack that sucked badly. Found the "somewhat" user trail on the way down.

My Hubby has been wanting to do this one for a while now. You have super good details, tips for getting there, and historical info - thank you!

I'm a big chiken  chickenleg.gif about heights. So maybe I will be crawling up that last part....haha

Probably the best lookout sight yet, at least for the Olympics, at least in terms of the remaining vista. Do you know what year the shot from the airplane was taken?

No date was given.  Yes the vista is the same today as back during its use.  There are so few "big view" hikes in this area of the south Olympics, it would be a good attraction for Grays Harbor County.  For now, the more boots using the path, the more the trail will get established.

Thanks for the TR, I've got to go try this one of these days.  I think there is a geocache up there too.
