Standing glissades have a long history. Rowland Tabor taught me, when in 1967 we boot skied the North Buttress of Shuksan after climbing the route. He had some LaTrappeur boots with a curiously upturned toe...perfect boot skis!
Awesome, didn't know it was that prevalent. Instinctively I've always glissaded standing, it's just fell more natural and fun to me. It took me some convincing to try the sitting method but that's fun too. Depends on the slope I suppose, but when you get the perfect angle and snow conditions it sure is a blast! This trip looked to have plenty opportunity for some glissading which sure makes the descent nice... especially with a 17+ hour day!!! eek.gif

Went car to car from Stuart Lake TH back in the early 90's on the NW Arete, also early spring which made the climb up from Mtr creek relatively easy on snow. On the other hand, wading up to the ridge in a couloir w/waist deep sugar snow was an indelible memory. . . . Great rock and outstanding location. Thanks for the TR and outstanding pics!

It is as though I had read a divine text, written into the world itself, not with letters but rather with essential objects, saying: Man, stretch thy reason hither, so thou mayest comprehend these things. Johannes Kepler

How much trouble did you have with the brush lower down? We found a mostly clear way but got stuck in about 100' of thick alder at one point.
It sounds like a lot of people encounter slide alder on this route one way or the other. We had no trouble avoiding it on the way up, but then I followed a single cairn on the way down and it took us into thick alder for about 20 feet. Overall not bad for a route with no real climbers trail.

Do a second tick check ASAP. I just finished the last day of my antibiotic treatment for an Ixodes tick.
That's good advice! We actually did two checks. One after the initial ticks were found (Josh had one too). And another back at the car before cooking dinner. Did you have a confirmed Lyme exposure, or just decide to play it safe?

The doc cut out a small area and the petri dish showed no growth after several days. The skin around the bite went necrotic, but the healing process really kicked in after a few rounds of antibiotics. Glad you all checked thoroughly!
