I had a great day in the mountains today in spite of some problems. I left early and got to the trailhead before nine. There were 5 or 6 dead animals on the road between Ellensburg and Leavenworth. I guess that's a good sign that there's lots of wildlife, but I was sad to see it. I was worried about parking, but the lot wasn't full yet like it would be later.
The scenery starting out was beautiful and the trail is in good condition except for some muddy areas. It alternated between sunny and cloudy and windy, as it would all day. I made it to the lake in about an hour and a half or so and found it very windy and cold. I saw hardly anyone going up but quite a few people were coming down from camping.
The lake was 47 degrees according to my fishing thermometer.
I started fishing and eventually found some, I caught two for the day and had several other bites. I probably would have caught a lot more but my raft has a leak apparently and I had to make a quick exit as water started spilling over the bow. Wildlife was absent today, not even birds were around.
Overall it was a good day. It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be, but plenty of people out enjoying the holiday and there were tons of cars along Icicle creek.
