Congrats on this FA. Recluse goes well with Spider, and also with Black Widow 7440'+ nearby, and that it is probably "reclusive" as it's likely hard to see except from just the right perspectives.
Might also be a record for most pics by r3h in a trip report...

Is there a reason that "Recluse" was chosen rather than "Brown Recluse"?
Perhaps the mountain is not very brown?

How wonderful that, even in an area as "well-traveled" as this, you can still find a grand place where no one else (probably) has set a foot. Nice work!

Congrats! Certainly there are not many summits left that Beckey or Roper or Fay......or Lage Wernstedt .......haven't been to.

Definitely not the namesake part of that drainage basin!

Nice running into you guys up there. I imagine that's a pretty neat place to be there on the N side of Spider. Congrats on a cool FA.

Nice Eric (and company)! Scary story on the way out. Sounds like your quick reaction paid off! I bet JR knows if anyone`s been up Recluse....

from the oracle:
Yours was a FA on Recluse. Pretty darn sure of that. Nice feather in your cap/hardhats.
Yours was one of the very last P400 Peaks in WA to be climbed as a FA.
Don Avriett, Stu Ferguson, and I spotted this/your peak in real life on June 3, 1978 as we climbed Trapper Mountain (not Peak) and got benighted, shivering through a cold bivy atop.
Don A had grown up in Michigan and noted that though Peak 7080+ didn’t quite compare to the other big peaks in the area, he was sure that if this mountain were in his home state of Michigan it would be the “Crown Jewel of Michigan National Park.” So we came to call it “Mount Michigan” then.
The next day we rapped off Trapper and made the FA of “The Trap” (which Beckey refers to as “Trapper Annex” in “Green Fred”).
Jeff Howbert exposed the unknown and hidden 7080+ jewel ~1999 when he teased it out as a P400 peak on the Cascade Pass quad. It would be nice if Jeff got some credit for spilling the beans.
In 2005, John Scurlock, Jim Nelson, Gary Mellom, and I were looking around for a FA to do together and decided to give Michigan/Recluse a try on July 9th, 2006. John S was especially interested in this destination since he too was from Michigan, and a graduate of MSU. We approached under Spider to the 7160+ Spider-Black Widow col (Stefan and Mike’s exit route) then descended southerly to try to turn the corner of the south cliff/ridge of Black Widow to get to Peak 7080+. We ran out of time as we dropped, but picked up Black Widow (nicely named by JS) on our return.

I'm only aware of two others, but there could be a few more.

better late than never i guess. here are some pics from this most excellent trip.
my highlights included:
1. an actual hike during the year that saw me spending all free time either remodeling a house or being a new dad
2. breaking weather leading to stellar, mystical views
3. being on the north side of the trapper area. rugged spot for sure!
4. having a great time at camp. i think we brought too much to drink.
5. tremendous views of le conte and dome on the way out. i think our camp vantage and the basin to the SE of spider has to offer the best views of those peaks. le conte is definitely one of my top 5 most beautiful peaks in the state.
