About thirty years ago a Seattle newspaper held a friendly contest to come up with a new name for the state of Washington. I forget what brought this on. Potential names were mailed to the newspaper and the new name with the most votes won the contest. Many creative names were submitted. The name “Wenatchee” got the most votes and won the contest. Currently there is a movement to give Washington DC statehood and voting rights. They would want and should have the state name, Washington. To avoid confusion the state of Washington would need to adopt a new name and state flag. It would need to be a new name that we all agree on; a new contest. This could be fun. Because of our state history with joint occupation with Great Britain our new flag could look something like this:

That's a good looking flag, Rod. Who is it? The Grand Union flag is thought to be the one actually used by George Washington when Crossing the Delaware.

This area could (should?) have become a part of BC, or at least still under joint occupation. The issue was finally settled in a world court at a time when the HBC only wanted to retain influence down to the Columbia river from the current border on the west side of the mountains. They wanted Cowlitz Farm. THe HBC would have built their big department store in Tacoma or Seattle and probably become a major outfitter, instead of moving up the sound to Victoria. They also could have helped to restore our wildlife. It would have been good for business and the local economy. Instead we ran them off quite rudely. Keeping the Union Jack on our new state flag would be good for the tourist business and a nod to our shared past with the English. New Zealand has kept the Jack on it's flag as have other countries, including our own countries first official flag.

The Doug flag does have several appeals. New State mascot? Elk, Wolf, Pika?

Yes. The Evergreen State. They built this state on beaver and Douglas Fir. "They" meaning the British. The beaver mascot/symbol has already been taken by Oregon. My idea has alresdy been taken by Hawaii - they had the right idea. It's much like our countries original flag.

Founding Fathers Fun Fact. Ben Franklin helped to design the Grand Union flag. Franklin dis-owned his own son because his son took sides with the British. Contradictions.

just slap an orca on the flag. maybe with a bear riding its back. And an eagle on the bear's back.

Cry 'Havoc!' and let slip the dogs of war

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

Black and yellow is "anarcho-capitalism." This flavor of anarchism supports property ownership, including ownership of land. Some other flavors do not. Further reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_symbolism#Bisected_flags_and_stars
