It just dawned on me that what is being described here is a Totem Pole. Of course that would create a whole other argument to be had.

I like a plain blue tarp like we see all over the place. If you want to put the silhouette of an orca on it that might make it nicer.

That really is just perfectly appropriate.

From Wiki. about the design of the British Columbia flag. We can do better than a boring blue tarp.
Design
The four wavy white and three wavy blue lines symbolize the province's location between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains. The setting sun represents the fact that British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province. The sun may also reflect the provincial motto "Splendor sine occasu" (beauty that never diminishes)—or, in other words, the sun that never sets (on the British Empire). The Union Flag on top reflects the province's British heritage

yes, but what color should the background be? |
IDK. The blue tarp is kinda funny. maybe the bottom half (darker)blue for the pacific and the upper half a real (dark)green for the forests with an orca in the middle. (And maybe a bear riding it's back. ) But the animal should be done in the NW Indian art style to honor the natives of WA.
(I really don't like the green on the current WA flag. It's a really ugly shade of green imo)

I thought Oregon had already taken that one...

Actually, as a former resident of the District of Columbia, proposals for statehood usually say that the name would be based on the name of the District. New Columbia is a common suggestion. I think most of the statehood advocates would be just fine letting the other Washington out west keep that name.
Btw, if I may continue my digression, the main reason that people who actually live there want statehood is not to get votes in the House and Senate, it is to get out from under the thumb of Congress. Imagine if the city you lived in had to have it's budget and most laws approved by the US Congress.

HBC Columbia District
In the newspaper name contest my state name choice was, Columbia. The new name, Wenatchee won the contest.

I would opt for a geoduck on the blue tarp. It would depict it being plucked from the beautiful blue waters of Puget Sound.

The flag of British Columbia was the creation of a preacher. This means that it was probably inspired by God Almighty!
Lets see some self respect around here. A blue tarp?

No, they can take a back seat to the name "Washington". "Columbia" would be fine, but no voting rights. They already don't know how to manage what they have....
