Thanks for this! smile.gif Beth and I hiked in to Cutthroat Lake a couple years ago and spent a night camped at this spot where the outflow makes a little waterfall, maybe 1/4 mile from the lake. We had entirely different weather but your photos brought some memories back.

Wow! That is beautiful. Does anyone know the opportunity for seeing the larches up 542? Or is Highway 20 the best bet for those of us in the Skagit Valley? Finally have a day off tomorrow and that is my goal. Thanks.

You'll have to go east of the crest so 20 is the best bet.

Larch looked pretty much at peak color at Horseshoe Lake today. Weather wasn't so great, but still an enjoyable day.

The Lyall's larches are probably history. It was very windy yesterday with Mission Ridge having sustained winds of around 40mph with gusts to 55 to 75 mph for most of yesterday and last night. It is still windy, though somewhat diminished, at this hour.

Ree, where were these pictures taken? I don't recognize the area, and the Chiwaukums are large... Thanks!

Hi talapus - These were taken on our last backpack of the year, in a basin just north of McCue Ridge, west of Donald Lake and Loch Eileen.

Maple / Heather Pass yesterday: needles are dropping but most of the trees are right around peak up there. I think the weather coming in toward the end of this week will probably do a number on them though, so the next two days might be the last chance for the best conditions along the Highway 20 corridor. A few of the trees higher up on the ridge tops were already pretty bare.

If anyone happens to get eyes on some Larch this week, please update the thread. I want to try to get one more larch hike in this year if they're still out.

The western larches should be coming around though.
