I spent the last week hiking the big loop around Glacier Peak, something that has been on my to do list for about a decade. The fire closure on Chiwawa River road selected my starting point as the White River TH. The other fire closure on the mountain closed the Indian Creek trail so I made my way up the White River trail to White Pass. Beyond the Boulder Pass jct the White River trail becomes quite brushy and overgrown. In the open areas of slide alder it was usually easier to make my way up the riverbed. The trail was easy to see, just difficult to push through. I think the last time it saw significant maintenance was 2002?
Type 2 fun on the White River trail White River . The trail's in there somewhere happy to see the PCT moonrise
I followed the PCT over White Pass and Red Pass and thought about taking the Black Mt HR to lake Byrne but my knees quickly told me it wasn't going to happen.
. . . . Red Pass take it to the next level . ax .
Day three was all about the PCT switch backs as I climbed Fire Creek Pass, passed Mica Lake, went down to Milk Creek and climbed up to Vista Ridge where I camped with excellent views.
when did this bridge break? mountain chicken hmmm... a fully melted Mica Lake bd
Day 4 I made my way down along the PCT to the Suiattle River crossing and up to the Buck Creek Pass Jct. The PCT reroute through the old growth grove is exceptional.
. big cedars along the Suiattle Miners Ridge fire lookout
Day 5 I walked up Mid Ridge, over Buck Creek Pass and High Pass, down to the Napeequa River, and over Boulder Pass to the White River Jct.
Buck Creek Pass Buck Creek fire still burning . cg Little Giant Pass Boulder Pass trail . Buck Creek Pass High Pass . Louis Creek Falls Boulder Pass Boulder Pass
Day 6 was an easy morning ramble along the White River back to my car. Sausage and beer at the Munchen Haus in Leavenworth was mandatory.
triple flavor coffee for the last morning . .

I think it has more to do with the condition of the trail before one gets to that sign...

You could be the last human to hike all the way to White Pass on that trail ! Did you hear much shooting going on ?

A good place to be in the world! I suspect that sign has a fair number of cooties on it.

Not on the way in. I heard a shot in the morning as I was heading up Mid Ridge on the first day of Buck season but not after that. I lounged around on top of Boulder Pass and chatted up some hunters camped below the pass. Quite a few up there and 20-30 pickups at the White River TH when I left.
I was also in the Napeequa valley earlier this year during bear season. On neither of these trips did I see a single pile of bear scat which is sort of alarming. I'm wondering if the fires have them wandering elsewhere or if I'm just terribly unobservant.

I hiked the White River Trail from the Boulder Creek junction to White Pass in the mid 90s and it was rough back then. I can`t recall a TR in a long while of anyone passing that way. Nice job! As well as the rest of the trip!

Incredible journey! Thank you for sharing.
Taco Bell bean burritos are a main source of food for me on my long days in the mountains, I need to take after you and start dragging along some hot sauce!
