In the bottom right corner of the Indian Bar photo, the text appears to be "27799 Curtis & Miller", not sure about the 3rd digit of 27799. I think "Curtis & Miller" represents a small window of time within Asahel Curtis' career where he had formed a partnership with another photographer with the last name Miller. One of Asahel's last ventures before settling down for the long haul with his final studio I think?

Snowbrushy, if you have an original it's a treasure (monetary value I have no idea but cool as all hell to own). The number might make it easy to identify, and maybe - just maybe? - we can identify some of those people? There might be one or two famous faces in there.

Edit: oh never mind. Congress already has it. https://www.loc.gov/item/90709618/

I always find it interesting that regardless of what they are doing, or where they are at, so many of the men at that time would have a suit jacket and tie on. In this photo only one appears to have that combination but it is so common for many of the old hiking photos to have many with that combination.

And hats. Always wore hats. My Grandads didn't wear cowboy hats, but the both wore Stetson's.

The cook is wearing a campaign hat. My local high school football coaches wear them when the team practices on the field. I was issued one in scouts.

Dunno, but that woman in the stripey jacket's got a way cool hat. And the lucky one on the left gnawing on a bone - man that's some grubbin' lunch! Lucky her - stuffing her face in perpetuity. I want to be like that woman when I go. Unlike the poor guy with smoke in his face in perpetuity.

Catered lunch, with a tent in case bugs are bad?

I'm going to need to up my hiking fashion game. Long sleeved carhart pocket t-shirt wouldn't make it in this set.

Best

I wouldn't win any fashion awards either with my Duct Tape gaiters. Maybe I could fashion a Duct Tape tie?

My Scandihoovian Cowboy granpa and uncles wore the narrow brim Stetsons.  They'd start out "silver" colored and end up raggedy and stained.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
