A friend and I hiked a 10-11 mile loop from the Mt Hood Meadows trailhead. We headed towards Elk Meadows, turned left up Newton Creek, left on the Timberline Trail, crossed the Clark drainage and the Meadows ski area, and returned via Umbrella Falls. It was a fairly warm and partly cloudy mid-October trip. We had thought of hiking in Indian Heaven, but a worsening forecast pushed us south. Fall colors were well past peak but still out there.
