That is a very good trailhead; fun drive up that high with excellent views. Mid June 2013, we enjoyed excellent weather. Sorry you didn't see a lot. It is worth a return trip for the views even with the long approach drive. https://www.flickr.com/photos/8246712@N03/albums/72157634346557871

Family friends had a hunting cabin up there. In the 70's we went a few times and the look out that was up there was on 25' stilts. Way off the ground.

A few years back, it looked like it was in good shape. My wife and I enjoyed seeing it up there.

I am aware of this story but we didn't see anything. We were also considering hiking up to the former Big Creek Lookout which is a short distance from Blowout Mountain on the PCT. This areas road system is full of hunters this time of year so there are plenty of people around the Tacoma Pass/Stampede Pass area of the PCT. If he took a wrong turn, he'd quickly end up on a road that someone would be driving up and down.
Yeah I agree, lots of hunters in that area. Hope he's found safe.

I saw Goat Peak and environs today from I-90 and there is no snow in that area.
