This is according to CleElum Ranger. Told me a impassable washout. I had / have plans in that area tomorrow

If you get a look at it please post a report with a photo.

This surprises me quite a bit, the road is basically flat at that point, there's nothing to erode down a hill. I would be really amazed to see a washout that truly makes that road impassable even to high clearance 4x4.
Oh well, only a few more weeks until it'll be closed anyways.

Here you go
"Impassable" road section
It's not a typical washout as we know it, but rather a large and deep mud bog.
Impassable? No
Impassable to the average vehicle? Yes
Did, or would I attempt in my 4WD truck? No
No barricades to prevent this from getting worse. Some vehicles have attempted to make their own paths around it on both sides of the official road.
That entire are is extremely saturated and getting your vehicle stuck is probable
Green tree bow in the mud. Evidence somebody was using for traction to get unstuck
Scatter Creek
Strange to see ghost town trailheads. Especially these 2 as they are so popular. It was a beautiful day up there today and nobody around
I expected to see a couple dozen vehicles parked all willy-nilly at, or near, Scatter Creek
There were 2 just before Scatter Creek and I was the only vehicle beyond Scatter.
It's a 1.8 mile walk to Paddy-Go-Easy Pass Trailhead and a 3.2 mile walk to Cathedral Trailhead

That last pic should be in a commercial. Just taking the dogs out for a walk is all. Classic!

This happened a couple years ago. Wasn't as bad, or as big, but man was it deep on that right side. Highly advise not attempting to go through, unless you have a lifted 4x4. If I remember correctly, there are some hidden boulders down in there too. Someone may have thrown them in for traction, unintentionally creating a real hazard for anyone trying to make it through.

A review of older USGS maps -- specifically where the creek crosses the road -- suggests that Scatter Creek has had several significant course changes over the years.

I see, yes that mud pit does form periodically in that spot. I saw a tow truck in there pulling a 4x4 out of it once a year or two back, and the driver said it's not that uncommon of a call.

Very helpful -- thanks for the report. No doubt some with big rigs and winches will deliberately get stuck for the fun of extracting themselves.
