This has been my all around boot for several years now. I'm about to get my third pair.

My Grandfather was a shoe professional and pinochle buddy of the Nordstrom clan. To his dying day he preached fit, fit, fit. Companies used to have consistant "lasts" that were the wooden norms for each size. "Find a company that fits you and stick with them", he'd say. Nowadays this advice may not be any good except for a few companies, since it is common to farm out so many of their lines. So to this day, when I find a model that fits, I go back and buy another pair!

Scarpa Kailash. Pretty similar to the cheap trashy fake waterproof boots I usually get at Big 5, but stronger, stiffer, and with much better edges. They were $200, instead of the usual $20 or $30, but worth the money. Never leaked until I let water pour in from the top. I really, really like these boots.

As I recall, our very own Critter (I miss him) highly recommended the Scarpa Kailash.
