This seems to be an annual topic that I find interesting. Pretty much to see how often other are able get to get out and enjoy the outdoors. I know many of us nwhikers keep track, so here are my numbers for the year. 575 miles 222,000 elevation gain 47 trips/54 days 62 new summits 5 repeats i hope to improve on quality backpacking trips with my kids in 2017!

I only kept track of miles in 2016. I'd never kept track before, but was curious so I started writing down my trail miles at the end of each day. I was shocked & thrilled! biggrin.gif Trail miles: 1,498

What is your method of keeping track of this data?

I keep track of this data on a .xlsx file. It does the math for you. Pretty neat!

Whoa, what big numbers you people are doing! In 2016, I only managed to do 122 hikes, for a total of 647 miles, with 211,970 feet of elevation gain, plus 122 rock climbing days, in my 73rd year, on my 2006 right knee and my 2014 right ankle. For years now, I've co-organized and co-led three hikes a week (weather permitting), for a group of senior citizens--plus three rock climbing days a week (no matter the weather). Eight years ago, when I retired, I had two days off each week; now I have one day off a week! Here are the hikes I did in 2016 (I'm also one of our expedition photographers): https://www.flickr.com/photos/nordique/albums/72157660760379394 We also have a tradition of trailhead photos; here are mine from 2016: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nordique/sets/72157662519152030/

Way to keep at it!!! Everyone else, too! About 305,000 vertical feet and 19 new summits in 89 days and 7 nights outside plus hundreds of good ole dog walks. I did not keep track of miles. I had a goal of 300k ft. of vert so yay, but lots of repeats. Shooting for at least 30 new summits and way more nights in the wilderness this year, but so far only 2 dayhike repeats. Cheers!

I only keep track of "days outdoors" which includes anything that gets me out and active for most of a day. I did an even 100 of those this year, about the same as recent years and is about 2 trips a week. It's a good pace for me I hope to keep up for many years to come.

2016 was another good hiking year. A little less hiking than the year before but still very good. This was the 35th year I have kept a log of all my hikes with distance and elevation gain. Most disappointing was a many year low of only one backpacking trip. The totals were: 91 trips 818 miles 212,800' of gain

R3H did that in 1/2 the time anybody else would take. JimK gets out there, for sure. I had some great trips on foot, but I don't keep track of such things except ski days per season and total number of ultras finished. I skied 88 days last season and finished my 88th ultra in April. And way back when I was a piano player. Go figure.

I woke up, I got out of bed, I drove, I hiked. Only a few times in 2016 due to dealing with foot problems and family issues. Hope to get out MUCH more in 2017.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Feet of gain: 391,474 215 ascents, almost entirely new peaks Not as much gain as last year, but I had some plantar fasciitis in December which had me limping and walking with a cane. It's better now though and today I made my 1200th lifetime ascent.
