The discussion on grizzlies has been locked and forwarded to a conversation which hasn't been added to since 2015 even though this is an active article since the meetings are just beginning. My view. The Audubon Society originally stated that the Grizzly historically was not a common inhabitant in the PNW. The grizzly prefers open forest and prairie which are not typical of the PNW. The plan by the agencies would require certain areas to be closed to the public.....Really remote so it wouldn't involve day hikers from Seattle? Right? No, one area suggested was the Pratt River drainage! Why would an agency like the Washington State Fish and Wildlife want to get involved? Simple, Money. Funds are dwindling for agencies which are protective but not productive for for private enterprise. Hence, they are scrambling to find "projects" that can be supplemented by Federal funding. Looking at what has happened in Yellowstone NP, we may find areas we've been visiting for years now blocked to us for usage.
I think the idea is to keep the topic in one thread as much as possible. Why not post in the long existing thread that has a lot of background information?
The older Grizzly thread is in the Stewardship forum. The locked Trail Talk thread started as an informational post alerting to an open house/public comment opportunity. The public comment info might have made sense in its own thread, because it was more visible. The newer thread then drifted to territory very similar to that in the older Stewardship thread.
