We were up to the pass yesterday and every thing is covered with deep hard ice. There is a prediction for heavy snow this weekend. It will be extremely dangerous out side ski areas with control. Do your self and mountain rescue a favor and watch the game.

I for one will heed your warning...Go Falcons!!!

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

FYI: If avalanche danger is too high, SAR will not go out. So you are pretty much SOL if you need help off area this weekend.

Always out there.

Have I offended you today?

Bump...stay home, watch the puppy bowl, the kitty bowl, the bud bowl...watch the patriots lose...definitely don't try to hike up Mt Dickerman.

The NWAC telemetry shows 20-30" of new snow thus far. The peak of the current cycle was when temperatures were warm yesterday morning. Nonetheless, there are likely to be hard surfaces on steep, sun exposed slopes and some rain crusts where the bond will be just fair. Significant snowfall will likely continue in the South Cascades through Monday morning. All of this will come sliding off in a major avalanche cycle Wednesday night and into Thursday when freezing levels rise abruptly.

Spent yesterday in the moonlight bowl area. Stout considerable. Mixed bag, wind slab, new soft... Human triggered, highly likely.. results, unimpressive due to terrain. Snow totals on the ground weren't that much12"s?. Propagation possible. 20' long, 10" crown was the largest, and within the new snow. Most others slid down to the crust.. steeper, but short sun exposed rolls produced a negative d1 Everytime. I imagine had we attempted to ski anything resembling a giant smooth marble cutting boarding tilted to 35 degrees, it could have slid.

High avalanche danger outside my house in Wenatchee! Everything just came off the roof, it was like a mini earthquake, the windows were shaking!

That's actually no joke. Large amounts of snow suddenly falling off a roof or tree can bury you deep enough to suffocate you. The melodious acronym for this type of death is NARSID (non-avalanche related snow immersion death). Consider the Scottish Lakes accident four years ago, when we lost a beloved member of the hike and ski community.
