If you are in this area and zoom past the Huff and Puff, a new restaurant opened in downtown Morton--near the Roxy, and it is good. We ate there last night. They have basics--sandwiches, meaty things, humongus salads. They also have Irish Death in their beer selection. It is called Papa Bear's. Bathrooms were clean and the place has a good ambiance with cedar paneling and checkered table cloths.
I write this because I have read that there is no good place to eat south of Tacoma.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

On our way South to Oregon, I generally fit in a stop at the Vader Cafe ( about 3 miles off the highway west). Not sure what the name of it. There is one restaurant in Vader right by the railroad tracks. It's small, warm and comfortable. Good food, It's where the farmers eat. They make you feel like a long lost family member.

Speaking of Morton and food, in 1976 I was driving over Chinook/White passes a lot. I often would pull off 12 and hit a burger place in Morton. No idea what it was called or it's exact location. I do remember they had BIG burgers.

The best place EVER for good food "south of Tacoma" is Meer's Store. Excellent hamburgers, they raise and butcher their own beef, and have their beer brewed especially for them by I forget who.
However, they are quite a way south (and east) of Tacoma: http://www.meersstore.com
Don't drive by fast or you'll miss it altogether!

Okay. You got me. I clicked on it thinking maybe Packwood or somewhere in Lewis County, maybe Yakima County. You know somewhere along the route to Oregon. But Oklahoma! ~z

Well, it *was* intended to be a bit funny. However, they do have great burgers (and a seismograph in the hallway). So if any of you end up anywhere near Ft Sill, or Lawton OK, It's not too far out of the way to go up to Meers. And you can drive through the Wichita mountains. Which is why I ended up there in the first place several years ago - I wanted to see the Wichita mountains while I was in Oklahoma. I'd read of them when I stopped at a visitor's center just inside the Kansas/Oklahoma border.
Anyway, back on topic. Burgerville in Vancouver, WA has very good burgers. And that's on the way to Oregon, so does that count?

I'd say good things about Rivers Coffee and Bistro on the same block.
Downsides: Not open for supper early in the week; "Boards" model of shared food doesn't work well with only one. Get the special.
Fish Tale beer.
Which spot did the new place go into?

Heck No.

Burgerville in Centralia , I'very eaten there a couple of times, once while on a 200km brevet. The fresh fruit milkshakes are nice treat when in season.
