With the grandkids off to visit the other set of grand parents, we had the whole day off. After sleeping in until ten we did a half day hike. Perfect blue skies, temps in the 60s (such a shift from a week and half ago with temps with a snow storm and temps in the teens) The parking area was overflowing, we parked partially in the ditch a 1/4 mile down the road. North aspects still had lingering snow that was melting fast. Some sections of the AT more resembled streams than trails. At Island pond, we found a dry rock peninsula and had a snack and a snooze. Thankfully a rock behind us shielded our ears from another hiker up the hill that was hanging out in hammock and blasting out John Denver tunes. We then checked out the "Lemon Squeezer" -- an interesting feature of the AT trail -- I guess they routed the trail through these rocks to make the hike more interesting -- since it would have been trivial to route the trail on a much easier path.
