My wife Jeanette and I hiked a loop starting at the North Sage Hills Area at the end of the pavement on Horselake Road. There is a pull out on the right side of the road for vehicles and across and just up the road on the left is the TH. I think some call it the Balsam Root Trail, anyway we didn't start there but took an old road just across from the parking lot and followed that up to a high point where we could see a trail below and from there we dropped down to it and followed it Southish as it winded it's way in and out of ridges until we were well into the central Sage Hills area. We didn't come across any trail circling back so we off trailed it up a ridge to a high point going back towards the North and followed the ridge until we saw Horse Lake Road then continued on it descending back to the parking lot. Wow !, the wildflowers are starting to come on strong over here and it's always amazing to see the green hills and the display which should play out nicely over the next month. It makes you want to stay in the lowlands and rip off some miles. Anyhow it was good to get Nettie out and she loved the trip. It's happening ! hockeygrin.gif

So where does that trail go? Is it just an out and back? confused.gif I have been curious each time I drive by. Guess I could get off my duff and hike it to find out.

I got tired of the winding in and out of ridges and knew the trail we would intersect would take us back but much higher up on Horse Lake Reserve so had to improvise and arced back off trail. That trail intersects with others and will eventually get you to the South TH''s Wenatchee outdoors has a complete trail map online. Complete Sage Hills Trail Map
