I did that section few years ago and was wondering whether to try it alone or try to find a group. Went alone, but met a lot of people along the way, so ended up hiking and camping with somebody every day. This worked out great, as I wasn't sure about how much I can hike or how fast so I didn't have to worry about waiting for anyone or slowing anyone down.
It's one of the most popular sections and you'll come across lots of people. That's something to consider possibly ...
I did it solo in 2001. Because I was solo, I chose to forgo taking a number of tempting off trail side-trips. Saw multiple other parties everyday. Now a days with a satellite messaging device, I would be willing to make those side trips.
I did section J last August [2016] solo and had an incredible, challenging, spectacular, rewarding, lovely, and quite social few days. I rarely went more than a few miles without seeing someone on the trail. I'm an extrovert and since I was hiking alone, I didn't mind the frequent chatting with folks along the way. I'm excited for you - I had a wonderful experience last year!
