I got back yesterday from a wonderful solo trip to the northern CA Redwoods. I camped at Jedediah Smith State Park, and explored all over the area for 3 days. There aren't really words to describe how immense these trees are, and they're darn difficult to take good photos of with a regular camera By far my favorite area was the Tall Trees Grove, which is permitted for only 50 people per day, so there was a lot of solitude, exactly what I was looking for.
If anyone is looking for an incredible trip within a day's driving distance of WA, I highly recommend the Redwoods area. It's something everyone should experience at least once.
Photos and text are on my blog, it's the easiest way to see photos and descriptions in one place

Enjoy!
Excellent.
Trees are not easy subjects for the camera. You get what you can through the lens, but it's never quite like actually being there.
If big trees are your thing, you should check out the west side of the Olympics, and maybe the cedars down on Long Island.

Hiker Mama - GO! It's one of those bucket list things that everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime, like Yosemite or Grand Canyon. I'm a total plant geek, so the trees were just my thing
