Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of hiking with my sister-in-law, who was in town visiting from Australia via Kenya. I had no idea she was an avid hiker before last week and once I knew, I was eager and happy to get out on a trip with her. We left Friday evening to get a campsite up the Suiattle River Road for the rest of the family, as they would arrive the next day and so we'd also be able to get our hike in early before the summer heat sets in. We arrived at the Green Mtn TH a little after 9 to several cars already parked there. Te Tei, took off and set the pace as we quickly passed several hikers just starting out. The forest was nice and shady to start but that soon gave way to the open, sunny meadows of Green Mtn. I was happy to see the wild flowers out in abundance. It seems like it's been a few years since I've seen flowers like this.

Te Tei is used to flatter hikes, which she regularly hikes the equivalent of marathons. So the constant uphill was a change for her but she absolutely crushed it with such a positive attitude and internal drive! She never stopped, other than for a drink of water, and I saw her run up some of the steeper slopes.

We reached the Green Mtn lookout in just under 2 hrs. We enjoyed the awesome mountain views in all directions. We chatted with several friendly hikers while grabbing a snack, lots of nice people up there.

After heading back down, my peak bagging obsession kicked in and I wanted to climb the Sw Pk "Envy" says Roper, 5988'. Te Tei waited near the small stream draining the mountain as I headed up the steep, green slopes. The flowers were beautiful but the traction was tough. It was slow going to keep from slipping but eventually made it to the top.

I made it back down to her and then we headed back down the trail.

The hike back was quick and we reached the TH to more vehicles than I thought could fit in that area. Everyone else had the same idea for some nice mountain views full of flowers. It was a great time, we made it back to our campsite and eventually, the rest of the family arrived. Good BBQ food was eaten that night and we did a short hike on the way out on sunday.

How is the road!! Is it doable with a passenger car?

YouTube | SummitPost Saw the depths of despair. Now I am salvaging what time I have left on Earth.

I saw several low clearance cars at the TH, but assumed they scraped at times or did some careful moves to get past the 1 or 2 spots.
