Peak 5650 and Peak 5770 Started this hike at 6am from the Smithbrook Trhd. The morning air was nice and cool, perfect for hiking. After gaining elevation to get up to the PCT junction several hundred feet is then lost heading to Janus Lake. I reached the lake just before the sun hit. I walked to the lake shore to check it out. A light mist was rising from the lake in the cool morning air. A few campers were camped at the lake. I then headed up the PCT passing a trail crew. Where the PCT crosses the boulder field below Peak 5650 I went up. I climbed the closed contour summit to the south of 5650 and was pleasantly surprised to find a Fay P register. This summit is some large rocks with lots of trees around, no need to stay. (This summit appears taller when on top.) I then headed to 5650 which is nice and open. I scrambled the summit block directly from the south(it’s an easy walkup around from the north). After a short summit stay, I dropped down the north ridge to connect back up with the PCT.

Back on the PCT I headed for Grizzly Peak. I took a short detour to get a nice morning overlook of Glasses. As the PCT nears Grizzly Peak the wildflowers really came out. It was a beautiful day to be here. The walk across Grizzly Peak with the flower meadows was pleasant. After passing Grizzly meadows I left the PCT and went up 5770. The summit is treed, not that interesting, just below to the north though was a lovely lupine slope and views to Glacier Peak, beautiful! One could lounge and enjoy this view for a good long while but the bugs would suck you dry. After some pictures I headed back to the PCT and south to Smithbrook.

Great day!!! Trip time: 8.5hrs.. would have been faster, but it was hard not to stop and take pics. Bugs were not bad if moving, but annoying if still and no good breeze. IMO, Flowers seemed to be at their peak.

So green and flowery. I love that section of the PCT for wandering up peaks alongside the trail.

Justus, we may have seen you near Glasses. Were you the one that found the filter on the trail near there? We talked to two overnighters that had stayed at the far end of the meadow that were going to Griz also.

That wasn't me. I headed down in that area between noon and 1pm.

I was on that PCTA trail crew taking care of my adopted section of the PCT (I believe you passed us twice?) and I agree the wildflowers on Grizzly are at their prime. smile.gif

You don't find yourself standing at the top of a mountain without having started out in the valley.

Thanks for the trail work! I went past your group three times due to side trips.
