Picked a liter of giant blue huckleberries near Hyas Lake yesterday. Tons of thimbleberry there as well. Up higher, not many of the alpine blueberries were ripe.

The meadows around Park Lakes (Mineral Creek) sit at around 5k' and were loaded with fat, ripe alpine blueberries.

Decent berries from the wilderness boundary to the upper end of Rock Creek basin off the Chiwawa this week. And didn't see a single person for two days so there probably is still some good picking.

Walked through a mile of thimbleberries on Bare Mtn a couple of days ago - and plenty of blueberries up the switchbacks.

For all the people at Spectacle Lake this weekend, relatively few were interested in the abundant blueberries throughout the basin. Our crew of two gathered nearly a gallon in a little over an hour.

I was there yesterday, can confirm. There were untapped berries at the parking area, and lots more up above. My friend's husband hates them, calls them "awful berries." I didn't know anybody hates berries!

Not all wild berries are created equal. I love huckleberries, native and Himalayan blackberries, and especially strawberries. Salmonberries are a crap shoot and thimbleberries are down right awful. YMMV Rumi

I guess this means awful berry is a generic term, like how you can google something using bing or yahoo.

My son and I hiked up to the Dickerman meadows today and picked about 4-5 pounds of a a good mix of red hucks, blues, and the reddish- blue berries with the red leaves. The heat didn't seem to affect the crop this year, at least up high in partially shaded areas.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
