Stephan Guyenet and I were just a short distance up the road from the Oso landlide when it occurred on March 22, 2014 (https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8009896&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0). As part of our Ross Lake photo trip (https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8026765 https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8026768 https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8026772) Don suggested getting some pictures of the Oso slide as it now stands. Boy oh boy what a scene:
Oso landslide 1
Oso landslide 1
Oso landslide 2
Oso landslide 2
Oso landslide 3
Oso landslide 3
In the small world department, the guy who established the initial incident command for the Oso response is then-Darrington Fire Chief Dennis Fenstermaker, a guy well known to and much admired by me, Don, Natala. Denny did a tremendous job there under impossible circumstances that will forever haunt those who worked in the mud and mire during both the initial and later stages of that tragedy; some info here: http://www.jems.com/articles/print/volume-39/issue-9/features/interagency-coordination-critical-rescue.html?c=1
