Please click "Map Tips" and scroll down to the section "About the data". That is what I know.
Got it, thanks (it doesn't answer it, but was great info anyway smile.gif ) You commented there in the confidence level in MODIS not being available in GeoMac GIS data. I don't know how CalTopo gets their MODIS data, but the confidence does show up there with the current fire activity overlay.

Matt Jacobs (CalTopo guy) likely gets the MODIS data directly from NASA and then hosts it himself.

Well, Crystal Mountain ski area may have survived, but it looks like the Greenwater basin took a hit. This morning MODIS and VIIRS feed show lots of IR hits all through the area. Echo and Lost Lake basins appear to have been thumped, as well as Noble Knob. Some IR detects down near Ranger Creek, but worst, it appears there are IR detects up by Suntop Lookout. I was on lookout duty there two weeks ago and it was bone dry-- if a fire started low on the hill it would burn up to the top in no time. Also, the Sawmill fire over by Kelly Butte appear active. It looks to be moving NW so Kelly Butte lookout may survive... Praying for rain! https://mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=42.383908,-116.391907&z=6&t=m,MODIS_from_GeoMAC,Fire_perimeter&q=https://propertylinemaps.com/p/public_land_map/USA/USA_wildland_fire_3.txt

Per this update no structural damage has taken place, and the Greenwater basin isn't in danger as crews would not be up at Crystal if the risk of their escape route being cutoff was a possibility. https://m.facebook.com/groups/173630809344132?view=permalink&id=1828967640477099 The VIIRS for Suntop is old(black color). Which means that it may have been a false detection or inaccurate. The wind shift that occurred last night helped tremendously with fire efforts. Gold Hill is safe. No solid information is available yet whether or not Corral Pass and Noble Knob have been hit. The visibility has been too low for aircraft to make an update IR imaging pass, so the actual fire boundary has not yet been updated. I believe they will be trying again today with the new westerly wind flow.

We were up in this area yesterday. FS road 70 (the Greenwater rd) was closed at the highway in the afternoon. I have not seen this closure announced anywhere so perhaps it was temporary. It had been open earlier in the day.

USFS just posted an update on Norse Peak Fire https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=ed0a7dad32fe4848b20c6f91c74c79ea https://www.facebook.com/NorsePeakFire/ Fire is now over 44,000 acres While it looks like Crystal is safe, the fire is indeed burning heavily in the Greenwater area now. Latest Fire perimeter map shows Echo and Lost lakes are inside the fire area and it's burning northward... https://mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=42.383908,-116.391907&z=6&t=m,MODIS_from_GeoMAC,Fire_perimeter&q=https://propertylinemaps.com/p/public_land_map/USA/USA_wildland_fire_3.txt Mt. Baker Snoqualmie personnel engaged the western edge of the Norse Peak Fire southwest of the Greenwater Trailhead and Greenwater Fire Department personnel completed plumbing and installing sprinklers in the Gold Hill Community. Evacuations (listed below) remain in place for much of the Crystal Mountain area.

Latest update from Paul Sowers, Fire Chief at Crystal Mountain. https://m.facebook.com/groups/173630809344132?view=permalink&id=1829907980383065 • Florida crew is heading home Friday • West side of the fire is getting more resources • All structures near Crystal are safe and not damaged • Fire is on Dalles Ridge now. Poses no immediate threat to Greenwater. • Fire crews will allow small groups of 4-5 cabin owners to access cabins so long as fire behavior stays controlled.

New updates on Norse Peak fire: MBSNF has announced all roads, trails, and facilities in the White River area are closed. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/photos/WAOWF/2017-08-15-1309-Norse-Peak-Fire/related_files/pict20170807-133103-0.pdf

Looking at the fire perimeter maps posted yesterday, about 12 miles of the PCT has been torched. Looks like the crew will have some work to do in 2018. Like there wasn't enough elsewhere. bawl.gif

From today's update - PCT is now closed from White Pass to Snoqualmie. Makes sense since Hwy 410 is closed from the Y junction. I'm not certain how the PCT hikers were getting out although I think I heard/read that there were some shuttles to take them out. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/5509/40277/

That Florida crew is probably going to have a rough couple of weeks... PNW wildfires right back to hurricane damage repair.
