There was a thread about this last year. I guess this is the culmination of that decision. I'm thankful that Dan Evans blocked a Middle Fork Snoqualmie dam, but glad that they didn't rename the whole valley for him. I don't mind the wilderness area naming that much, but would have preferred a geographically relevant or inspirational name. "Wild Sky" was a great name choice, as was "Alpine Lakes" way back in the 70s.
Naming controversy aside, we really need political leaders like Dan Evans. Someone with a long term vision -- not just the next election or for that matter the next news cycle.
A couple of wilderness areas in California are named after persons that are logical John Muir and Ansel Adams both are associated with the Sierra and were vocal in its preservation. Evans for all his sterling reputation had little to do with the Middle Fork. During his term it was pretty much an outlaw kingdom. Why not name North Cascade NP Richard Nixon NP? He signed the enabling legislation.
